Description
The White Capped Noddy is a resident seabird and inhabits many of the Great Barrier Reef islands all year.
These birds were beginning the arduous task of nestbuilding with their partners. One of the pair will scour the trees and ground for suitable leaves (generally from a Pisonia) to bring back to the mate. If appropriate the leaf will be 'glued' to the tree with poo- yes, this is how they build their nests.
These birds are very clumsy with their webbed feet and if high winds occur during nesting season, babies or eggs will be blown out of the flat bed nest.
Very beautiful to look at and alot of fun to watch. Feel sorry for them as it takes ages to even select one good leaf!
